Windows 10 after update said wrong password and recovery email is typed wrong (URGENT)

MrConcrete04

Hello world,

I have updated my pc because it requested a update so I accepted it and after update, after typing in my password it said it was wrong. I asked them to send me a recovery code but the email that it was sent to had a typo in it. How can I change my email? I cant remember what app it was but I dont think it was windows.

Thank You,

e.

If you don't have bitlocker

  • create a Windows to go USB
  • open it and cd into your main drive
  • delete sethc.exe and
  • copy and paste cmd.exe and rename it to sethc.exe
  • shutdown and remove the USB
  • Switch on the PC and press SHIFT 5 times
  • do the following cmd command "net user username*"
  • Press enter twice
  • Restart and log in without a password

Windows to go USB is windows on a USB instead of a hard drive. The two Windows installations are isolated from each other. Cd means go to that area or directory. For example if I say cd to documents, that would mean set the directory to the documents folder. But in this case you will not need to use cd, you can use file explorer to do the copy and pasting.

Do you have encryption enabled.

Would I still keep all my files and things I saved on it? what does "encryption enabled" mean?

No need for that, a Windows install drive works fine, when you get to the install prompt, press SHIFT+F10 to get a CMD prompt.

I do this on orphaned domain PCs.

This doesn't erase anything, it's to reset your user's password, but the instructions he gave aren't accurate, if you follow that you won't be able to login.

it's kinda hard to be clear about this on a forum, and it's a little involved when you're not knowledgeable, but here's a video explaining the process, take your time and follow each and every steps ;

here's my version of this ;

Spoiler

Boot with a Windows install USB

On the install prompt, press SHIFT+F10

In the command prompt, find your Windows drive (it's probably the C or D)

navigate to the system32 folder
rename utilman.exe
copy cmd.exe and rename it to utilman.exe
restart you PC and load into your Windows install
click on the utility icon ;

Spoiler

utilman.png.dc1f562e81aff32296530555c8444831.png

when the command prompt open, type the followin command ;
net user username password

REPLACE username for your Windows username, and password for the new password you want to use
close the command prompt window and log in with the new password.

Yeah, I just have a Win 10 to go USB lying around so I use that most of the time, as I also have access to file explorer
