BIOS not detecting windows USB installer

Hey guys,

 

So my windows/windows update is all fucked up, so I want to just do a fresh install. I'm backed up and good to go. I made a USB to an installer, but whenever I boot into my bios, it doesn't show up. I've tried both front USB headers. and one in the rear. I can access the drive fine from within windows, but it's not detected when I go into my bios to change the boot order for a fresh install.. Any reasons why/how to fix?

Was the USB formatted in FAT32 or NTFS?

Assuming you did tell it to install on the correct USB stick and not in ISO form on the USB stick, I'd give other USB ports a shot. I've not ran into a FAT32 USB stick not working personally.

If your Windows10 install USB was done correctly, plugging it to a computer should look like this.

Using a Windows 10 ver. 2004 install I recently made with a 16GB USB stick.

It looks exactly like that, only with a 8gb stick.

 

I'm considering backing up my 3TB external drive, and trying to use that as a boot drive?

 

EDIT: Also if it matters I can't select either of my SATA SSDs as a boot drive. They're both empty with a couple games on them.

Don't use an external HDD at boot....UNLESS you are just using it temporary / testing purposes.

 

If you want to reinstall Windows, You don't select your SSD as boot drive.

You set / select the boot device at the USB stick, and THEN during the Windows install / reinstall set-up, you CHOOSE which SSD to install INTO.

 

Installing Windows onto the SSD will wipe / over-write whatever is on the SSD.

No I know that, I was just pointing out that they weren't being detected.

 

Asides from getting/sorting through random DRAM issues, I found my Corsair USB that I've used in the patch and it worked without hitch. Must be a sort of issue with the USB I was trying to use?

Could be the installation media not getting created properly.

You can always format / wipe the USB, and run the media creation tool on it again.

Yeah I did that a few times. Must be an issue with the USB.

 

I found my Corsair Voyager Go, and threw it on that and it worked perfectly fine.
