How do I backup to my NAS?

Hey guys,

 

So I bought a QNAP Nas, have 1x 6TB Drive in there. I've moved my media over and got my Plex up and running. But I can't find for the life of me any tutorial or way to access my QNAP on windows, and backup select files to it before I reinstall windows.

How do you access it? IP Address (numbers) or hostname (letters)?

I access it through IP in my browser.

You should be able to put that in the address bar of file explorer

And if you right click This PC in the side bar you should be able to Map Network Drive... and you can enter the IP in it. Then it just shows up as a drive on your PC (I always use Z: for my prime network share)

I'm aware of that. Like I said, I already moved over media from an external USB and made a Plex server.

When I right click "This PC" > Map Network Drive, there's no folder I can select. I click "Browse" > and the only option is "Network" but I can't select it at all.

Ah, don't click browse, just type in \\your.ip.address.here in that text box
You might need to add \nameOfYourShare to the end

Ok, what's the "name of my share"?

No clue. did \\IP not work? 
What's the URL you're using to manage it? (redact your IP even though it should be an internal IP address, still good practice)

Also, in fairness, when I hit Browse it took 5 minutes (clocked) to show my network devices

192.XXX.X.XX:8080/cgi-bin/ is what I'm using to manage it.

 

When I \\IP it doesn't work when I type \\IP\share it tells me to enter my network credentials, so I put in my NAS User/Password, then I get a popup that says "WIndows cannot access 192.xxx.x.xx\share, check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network.

weird. Sorry. TBH I've never used this stuff before, I usually roll my own NAS

How did you move you media over ?  Since its a NAS you can access it as a network drive and backup everything and don't be on WiFi when you do, use ethernet.

Yeah I forgot to update.

 

I had to turn my VPN off, then I could get it to show in the QFinder app, and I could map the drive from there, now I can just drag anything over through windows. Thanks!
