Microphone makes ringing nosie

Whenever I turn the gain up there is a ringing nosie that gets worse and worse. This is a brand new mic, cable and interface.

So can feedback damage a mic? I'm worried i subtlety damaged the mic while the feedback happened for a short time.

It can but you havnt.

It has to get stupidly loud to cause damage and its more likely to damage the speaker before the microphone.

 

 

But to stop it happening either turn the speaker off or reduce its volume. Move the microphone away from the speaker.
