is a custom loop logical?

I wanted to upgrade my PC whenever quarantine ends and I can start earning money again but as I looked around to make a plan and see how much it would cost I found some forums that basically said what I was thinking of doing wouldn't be worth it. I want to upgrade to a 2060 and switch to a custom water cooling loop because I worry way too much about temperatures (I don't want to throw $350 in the trash) so I figured if I water cooled it wouldn't be a problem but apparently a 2060 isn't worthy of a water block, my plan was to get a 360mm rad and a 240 (i know it's probably overkill) then tie my cpu (ryzen 7 2700x) and the rtx 2060 into that. but now I am confused and unsure of whether or not I should continue all thanks to that forum.

This is beyond not worth it. For your loop you'll spend more money than the card. Don't worry about temps basically every 2060 has no trouble cooling themselves. Also might just wanna wait for the 3060 or 3050ti and see how prices go the 2060's are old tech by now and also really overpriced.

A loop like yours would easily go into the 400's if you wanna do it semi decently. A 2060 is totally fine up till 90c or something (90-95 was the max temp) and most coolers even the blower styles ones have no trouble keeping them at 80c whilst still having ample room to cool harder.

Custom loop is basically there for very specific use cases or when you don't know where else to spend your money. With the price of that loop you could get a 3070 right now even tho they are far overpriced instead of a 2060.

Custom water cooling is not something you do based on the cost-benefit analysis. It never makes sense from that perspective. You do it because you want the best cooling regardless of price, because you want the best looking PC, or because it is your hobby and you enjoy doing it.

That said, you should probably buy better hardware before considering a custom loop.

I’d do it. I watercooled a 1060 3gb. Doesn’t matter what the hardware is, do it. I do my ram too. It’s my pc and the parts exists for a reason.
I enjoy building my pc and I’m not gonna give an opinion on something I’ve never done before. If you want it and enjoy everything pc

building has to offer than try it. See if it’s worth it to you.

Well, with the money that loop is going to cost (I'd say 600+ if not done all on the cheap, 500 the lowest for semi decent components) you could upgrade to a card that's a lot better.

The question is never wether some components are worth it, it's the bang for the buck. Buying a 2060 now is questionable, building a custom loop for it is a waste of performance. If you're worried over temps that much just limit the max frame rate in-game.

And you could also use one of those universal AiO kits (if you find s compatible GPU) for 1/3 of the costs of a full custom loop. Finding a full cover GPU block for a 2060 will be tricky as hell. Basically Bykski or nothing. Ek, Watercool, Alphacool, they do not care for lower midrange models.

i just got a 5900x  with a gt 1030 and i air cool it with a noctua nh u12A and it cools it find 30 c idle and 50 c max gaming the video card doesnt even have a fan and it stays at 30c. custom loop is never  worth it if your looking at it from a price to performance perspective. its for looks mainly.

Thats a horrid comparison.

For the price of the loop you would be much better served to just get a much better gpu with a beefy cooler. So you could get a 3080 or 3070 with a high end air cooler and STILL come out cheaper than the 2060 with water cooling.

Custom water makes the most sense when you are already close to max on components that the money of the loop wouldn't = much more performance elsewhere

Basically, NO custom loop is logical. We don't do this because it's logical. The cards and CPUs all run fine with their stock 'free' coolers. It's about a hobby.

But, that being said, why bother with a custom loop on a 2060? The $100+ a waterblock would cost could easily go towards getting a (much) better card. Same with a CPU. If you're going to spend $350 on a CPU, and $100 on a waterblock, you'll get better performance by just spending $450 on a CPU. It's like the old 'should I SLI 2 mid range cards?' No. Never, at least not at one time. You'll spend less and get better performance just buying the better single card almost every single time.

Now with THAT being said... do it anyways, cuz why not? It's all about having fun, isn't it?
