Upgrading my Crappy Case

UsefulPineapple

First off, I doubt I’m posting this in the right place, but I’m not really sure what section this belongs in, so sorry to any mods/admins. Anyways, on with the main topic. I built my first PC about 5 years ago now, and I haven’t upgraded it too much since. I only upgraded my i-7 4790k to a Ryzen 5 2600 (my motherbroad died right when the pandemic started so I was somewhat limited by stock at the time). In addition, I’ve thrown in some SSDs and Hard Drives over the years for more storage, but other than the system is original including my case. I have a very lovey, ornate, pristine Corsair SPEC-03. If you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic. It has no PUS basement, is scratched to heck, and generally looks dated.

(I’m not even daring to show the inside because the cable management is horrible, also please notice the DVD drive😂

So instead of being a smart person and upgrading my GTX-970, I decided to get a new Case. (In my defense, I only play Minecraft and some other games that aren’t GPU intensive at 1080p, and with the current prices on GPUs I’m fine with my 970). I’m going with a Meshify 2, because it looks good and has a lot of Hard Drive space. (I also do YouTube so I need some more HHDs for old recordings) In addition, I’m getting the Hyper 212 Black Edition, and some RGB fans and some nice sliver and of grey cable extensions. I’ve ordered all the parts last night, and I’ll post an update once they arrive at my house and again once I’ve completed the upgrade.

I plan too, just in case. It’s pretty handy when my grandparents still share family pictures on CDs

You can buy external 5.25" enclosures that connect to your computer via USB. I've been considering this for when I finally drop a case with 5.25" bays.

I don't have enough USB ports - or room on my desk - for this.

Thus why I will forever use my case, because it's ATX and has what I need.

You can always buy USB expansion cards that utilize the PCIe slots.

Don't have any open PCIe slots, either.

My case has literally no more space in it.

Wow, you must have a lot of expansion cards you're using right now. I've never had to use another expansion slot but may in the future with a USB 3.1 card or a sound card(onboard sound I got dialed in Realtek HD Audio Manager thanks to Nahimic 2+ causing frametime spikes every few seconds).

Currently I have a PCIe x1 SATA/IDE card, a FireWire card, and 2 GPUs.

That's quite a bit of expansion cards you have going there.

FireWire is handy for communicating with my Macs (only my Mac Mini right now because my other two need new logic boards), because it's a butt to move flash drives.

It's a bit more of a butt to send files over FireWire, but this way I don't have to bang my elbow and have to readjust my monitors all the time.

Oh okay, I was going to ask how to move it but it looks like you’ve already done it. Thanks!

Update: We had a “snowstorm” come through Virginia, so the shipping has been delayed on some of my stuff. (It was only about 2 inches but it doesn't snow often here so when it does stuff shuts down). Hopefully everything will be here by later today or tomorrow, so yay I guess.

Update time! So I got everything, then I had a unexpected family thing and had to go out of town for a few days. I’m back now, and managed to transfer the computer over to my new case. I’m not very good at taking pictures, but it looks better in person529B063A-BB15-4753-9632-DDADA0B7A91B.jpeg.35b6cd078bc6807773ba247777fdc16b.jpegB52A685F-83DC-44DF-9C05-44F770793DCE.jpeg.baf1aa9e89813002718eba6faf7c6cc8.jpegEF5CCE9C-718B-4A09-8561-80108DC90652.jpeg.a49b4ea54c722cb816be31111101ed20.jpeg3EB0E536-62D4-4F72-A385-2C3F96295954.jpeg.3418bfd444196ad1959467df1dd22492.jpeg
