Budget (including currency): 2000

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 240hz 1440p gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I currently have an i7-4770k, 16gb DDR3 ram paired with a rtx 2080. I haven't been too impressed with my frames lately in cyberpunk, metro exodus and modern warfare.

Im changing out my 34" wide screen LG monitor for Samsung g7 32" 240hz 1440p monitor and im looking to get more frames. I know im already bottle necked from the 4770k and im looking at ~$1200 to upgrade to an i9-10850k with a new mobo, 64gb ram and a nice new gen 4 m.2 boot drive.

Alternatively a guy local to me is stilling a 3090 for actually retail price... crazy I know.

Just wondering if I'd see appreciable gains from upgrading my whole Chipset or if I should snag the gpu while I can and upgrade to 11th gen intel later this year. Or amd if they can get stock under control.

If you can get the 3090 at retail go for that because we don't know when stocks are coming back.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

What on earth do you need 64GB of RAM for? 32 is generally more than enough, with FS2020 being the only game I've seen use more than 16GB

The RTX 3090 would be fine as long as you are also going to upgrade your platform. If the 3090 consumes too much of your budget and you can’t do both, then pass on the GPU. The 2080 is still very good, the 4770k is not. For me, it’s not even a debate if it was my system. Either upgrade both, if you can’t, then upgrade the CPU to a 10850k or a 3900x or 5900x, do the gpu down the road when stock is better.

Because he’s building a premium system and wants a premium experience. When you’re pricing out a $1500+ gpu and a $500 CPU, 64GB of ram is not a big deal.

Yeah thats going to be my plan. In a few months I'll upgrade the the whole chipset. Im meeting the guy with the 3090 this morning, I wasn't planning on buying one anytime soon but he's local and selling at msrp so im going for it. The 2080 is going into my girlfriends new rig.

Probably don't need now it but my current rig has lasted me 8 years and 8 years ago 16 gigs of ram seemed pretty extreme too. I'd rather get 2x32 gig dims now and be able to 128 if needed in the future.

You also might be severely underestimating how many tabs I can have open at one time in chrome.
