Metal bar between expansion slot covers?

Hello all, odd question and I apologise for my ignorance. 

 

I have a 3070 which requires the removal of two expansion slot covers on my 4000d Airflow case. I have done that, and installed the gpu, no problem. 

 

However, removing both slot covers does not create one larger hole - there is a vertical metal bar between each expansion slot cover that remains in place and seems to be part of the case itself. This does not impede installation of the card, but is visible from the outside, and lands right between the row of DisplayPort ports and the HDMI port, visually dividing it into two single slot sections.

 

Is this normal? Is this something that I am intended to remove? I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.

Yes, that's how most cases are designed.

It's a part of the case. Expansion cards that have ports or vents taking up two or more expansion slots will be laid out such that ports or vents will be on either side of it.

It depends on the exact case, but yes this is basically always the intended use case.

These bars that run across the width of the case are there for structural support.
