Fan position on heatsink/cpu cooler

Freddyg103

Hi all,

I've just done a new build, and for CPU cooling chose the below cooler:

https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/coolers/cpu-air-coolers/masterair-ma620p/

Cooler Master MA620P

This comes with 2x fans included, and supports up to 3 fans in total.

By default, there is a fan between heatsinks, and a fan facing the front of the case. The front pulling air in and through the first heatsink, with the middle fan pulling in that air and pushing through the second heatsink.

There is space on the back for a third fan, which will suck all the hot air out of the heatsink and push it straight out the back of the case.

Now I'm considering removing the fan from the middle of the two heatsinks, and putting one on the back, to more efficiently push air out the back of the case.

However, this will mean it's relying on the front fan to push air through two heatsinks, and I'm not sure if it's powerful enough for this?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

You don't have a rear exhaust fan on your case?

I would rather have that than do what you mentioned.

Nah no rear fan yet.

It's planned but currently none. Just the two intake fans on the front.

Ran out of CPU Fan Headers so will need a fan controller as well to add more.

Nah just get a fan splitter if you don't have any more fan headers. There should be CHA_FAN headers but as I said if they are also being used just get a splitter. You can buy 3 or 4-pin splitters depending on what fans you got.

As for what to do until you get that fan, mounted on the HSF I doubt it will be successful at pushing air out. So either just run as you are now or put one of the fans on the chassis.
