Second monitor shuts off, and all windows move to primary monitor

SnowCells

As the title suggests, I am using a dual monitor setup. My graphics card recently kicked the bucket, so I am stuck with onboard graphics. One issue I've noticed is that when I power off my secondary monitor (which has stuff like Spotify, discord, etc), all those windows move onto the primary monitor. This never happened when I was using my discrete gpu. Anyone know why? It is a 9600k for anyone wondering. One monitor uses DisplayPort, and one uses HDMI.

as far as I've found Intel's igpus don't have a "span" option, just "extend".

If you were using spanning on your old gpu the windows will hold the windows locations with the monitor off because it "groups" the video outputs together and doesn't treat the monitors as their own devices, extend doesn't do this as it treats each display output as independent.
