Powering Down After Flashing Motherboard BIOS

Hey guys!

 

I'll be building a new Ryzen rig soon (waiting on GPU, like everyone else). For this build, I'll have to flash the bios (got an MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi board) in order for my 5600x to function. I'm fairly confident I know how to do this process (but hell, any pointers would be nice).

 

My only question is after I flash the BIOS, when and how do I safely disconnect the power from the motherboard in order to continue assembling the computer?

You are in luck! This board features USB Bios Flashback, so no need to boot the system up. Just build your system, and prior to booting (but with PSU Power On and connected to the Mobo), update the Bios via USB Flashback. The manual will provide exact instructions on how to do so. Typically once the the indicator LED stops flashing it means the process has finished, it can take a few min.

Hey Daily, thanks for the reply!

 

I'm glad I don't have to fully boot the system up, but my question remains: after I complete the USB BIOS Flash, when and how do I safely disconnect it from power? I assume I'll have to power it down in order to complete the rest of the build.

 

I checked the manual but it didn't mention this point.

Welcome to the Forum. It is best to quote people otherwise they won't see your reply.

 

From what I know, after the BIOS has finished updating, it should reboot automatically. After that, just power off the system and put in your new CPU and components.

No problem! The system will reboot, as @Avocheeseadosaid, this will indicate the process is completed. Here is a great video I found:

Should I connect my motherboard to a monitor and keyboard then? I watched this video and was under the impression I could just connect the motherboard itself: 

 

I have all the proper components, I just figured that doing the flash with a completely fresh motherboard (no other components installed) was the best option.
