Installing a firewire card

My family member wants a firewire card like this...

 

Another pic shows his motherboard. Would it fit in that slot right at the bottom ??

No, it won't - that's a PCI slot, not a PCIe slot.

It doesn't have the 4-pin Sony iLink one, instead having an additional FW400 port.

Note that for Windows 10, you will need the 1394 OHCI drivers.

Thats a pci slot on the board, the card is for pcie. You need a pci firewire card if you want firewire.

You might want to find one with a FireWire 800 port as well. That's just a PCI one I found quickly.

My question is in 2021 WTF uses firewire still? i thought it died out in like 2005 or so, but with that DDR3 ram maybe the user is living in the past

It's very handy for communicating with my Macs - 2011, 2005, 1999 (though 2005/1999 are out of commission for mainboard replacement).
MUCH better than moving flash drives.

A lot of cheap firewire cards have a certian combination of chips on them which cause a lot of motherboards to crash a lot sometimes with them, so be aware.

 

I face this issue daily
