I don't know how that quote was added ( @fpo might be able to answer), but it wasn't directly added with the quote button because it's missing the metadata that is used to send notifications.

First of all, I'm happy to receive attention.

Spoiler

/s not that narcissistic.

Step 1:
Quote moonzy.

Step 2:

press enter twice on firefox browser to split the quote.

Existing quote pictured is the bottom half of the quote from moonzy as evidenced by white space above the text

Step 3:

Quote other guy.

Side note:
I think I may have done that on the pixel 4a google chrome, I can't recall. I've been bouncing between my pc and phone this whole morning. I have memory of doing special text manipulation for easier multi-quoting on mobile for a double quote this morning. Usually only done on mobile since it's easier on desktop.

I know the pixel doesn't split quotes, but I guess it did for some reason today. I'm not sure, I had a system update since I made my last bug report about not being able to split quotes.

Ah, it seems that splitting quotes doesn't add the metadata to the second one. I'll report this to IPS.

If you press enter twice within a quote, it splits it into two. The second one doesn't get the metadata copied from the original, so the forum doesn't know who you quoted. If you then delete the first quote, there's no longer any metadata for that quote, so the quoted user won't be notified.
