ok so I have a router downstairs and it's exactly under my room. in my room I have a gaming pc which is connected to said router and I get 70MBPS on it (5ghz), at the same time I have 2008 macbook also connected to said router via 5ghz, and I get 70-80MBPS. I can game pretty decently but what can I do to improve the latency when I move the laptop for example? (I keep the laptop in the bed, on my legs, and when I move a bit it can introduce latency for a sec or two.) I'm a noob when it comes to network but I'm slowly learning. I heard that ethernet is much better than WiFi for gaming, how do I go about it? And do signal boosters help? I think I would need wall drilling to move the router in my room...

Can you route a cable through a vent?

Or drill a very small hole?

Can you test it with wired?

I wouldn't be suprised if some of the latency is the client struggling to decode the video , as those older macbooks don't have h264 hardware decode, so its all done on the cpu.

This is interesting, I want to know more if you feel like shedding more light on the encode/decode latency please!

Here is what parsec tells me :

Decode : ranges between 9-11ms

Encode : ranges between 4.96-5.33ms

Network : 3.30-3.48ms

I know that the bigger the ms number, the more latency (bad). So according to parsec, the Decoder/client (macbook) is the culprit? Would a better client laptop, with lets say an intel HD 4400 be better at decoding than my Geforce 9400M macbook? Thank you.

Do you have a faster client you can test with?

What cpu usage do you see when your streaming games?

A hd4400 should be much better than this older macbook.

Yes a family member has a laptop with intel HD4000.

CPU usage when I alt-tab out of the game onto the laptop task manager is high 80s low 90s then goes back down.

I also noticed decode ms goes mid 22-26ms when gaming.

Im gonna guess that cpu and older laptop is your issue not network then, wired will help, but your wifi seems to be not too bad currently.
