I'm getting mixed reviews. Can a 970 chipset overclock? Like at all?

I know I toyed with my 8350 and couldn't get a stable 4.4GHz on stock voltage, using a 970 Extreme4, but a recent thread has peaked my curiosity with a user being able to achieve a mild overclock on an 8320 with an M5A97.

Is it possible? Is it smart?

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

The Extreme4 has a terrible VRM design. I wouldn't advise overclocking much at all with that board. The 970 chipset is more than capable of overclocking, I have a Gigabyte 970 board and I overclocked my 6350 to 5GHz. The Asus M5A97 isn't much better than your Extreme4. The only 970 board that I could recommend for overclocking an 8 core would be the GA-970A-UD3(P).
