Final build, please critique

CuriousBro

Budget; 2200$ with some wiggle room. Use; I often play games on mute while listening to YouTube podcasts, and have 3-4 spreadsheets open in the background for work use. Location; USA.

I'm fairly confident on the MB, GPU, CPU, and RAM. The areas I question are the M.2 SSDs and the power supply. If the benefit for the SSDs isn't worth, I'm open to alternatives. And if there's a better PSU for less, I'm open. For CPU cooler, I'm simply going to use my old CPU cooler that came with my Ryzen 7 3700x. And if I'll probably go ahead and try overclocking if the build can handle it (never overclocked before). This is designed for gaming. Current monitor is a 1440p/144hz and I love it. I'm looking to run on max setting with highest FPS. Generally, I like max settings and quality FPS over resolution.

Estimated cost; 2165$ before taxes and shipping. Often times when an item costs enough, there's free shipping, so I'll try and combine items. Keep in mind, NewEgg doesn't tax me because they are based out of state, and Amazon does (7.5%).

MB – 165$

SSD – 240$

PSU – 160$

GPU – 750$ Out of stock

CPU – 550$ Out of stock

Ram – 300$ Out of stock

That is a terrible idea. Buy a NHu12s.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

Could go NXZT E850 for powersupply, that is about $10 more. For motherboard, I personally would get a B550 series board. I recommend B550 Tomahawk or Asus Strix series, though both are more expensive than your current choice. You should double check deals for a 2TB 970evo drive, it might be cheaper than buying 2 1TB.

What's the benefit of the other motherboard? And I'll look for deals with the SSD's

Don't use the stock cooler on the 5900X, it will be a struggle at best. Get proper cooler for that chip. To avoid future troubles in games with power spikes, get a 1000 Watt or more power supply. Reviewers have shown the card drawing close to 500 Watts peak on their own, leaving very little room with that 850 unit. When calculating with the efficiency rating at full load, I would estimate the power supply to provide between 750 and 780 Watts max. For 1440p gaming a 3070 would be pretty fast as well and the 850 Watt unit would be fine.

I personally dont need that much PCIE 4.0 lanes, and dont like tiny fans. B550 ticks both boxes.

First off, definitely don't reuse the AMD stock cooler for a 5900X, especially if you're planning to overclock. The reason it doesn't come with one is because the cooler isn't designed to handle a CPU that powerful.

Second, that motherboard doesn't have a BIOS flashback function that works without a CPU. This means that if you get a unit which doesn't have its BIOS updated, you'll need to take it to a computer store and borrow an older CPU to be able to update the BIOS. If you're looking for a motherboard with built-in BIOS flashback that works without a CPU, I can recommend the MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK or Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO AC

Third, I'm not crazy about the price you're getting on that power supply. It's a solid EVGA unit, but it's only semi-modular, and for less money you could get a fully-modular Corsair RM850x.

Finally, I don't know if it's worth paying a bunch more for CL14 RAM. The difference between CL14 and CL16 is like ~5 FPS. You might be better off getting a CL16 kit (which is also conveniently in stock right now), and saving your money.

Other than that, everything looks good. Good luck finding a 3080, and happy building.

Yeah CL14 ram is pointless, go with CL16

Go with a B550 board, you'll get more features for same price or a few dollars more... better vrm, 2.5g ethernet etc tc..

b550 aorus pro, msi tomohawk, others..

waste of money with those ssds

go for a good fast 500-512 gb for the OS and go cheaper on storage

wd blue 2tb is for example 209$, it's sata..  same for crucial p1 which is nvme but with qlc  (for storage, doesn't matter)

Wait, are you saying there's no way I can download the proper bios onto a thumb drive, then update the MB with the thumb drive? And I have a backup laptop, it's from 2009, but it works. Are you saying I can't use that either?

As far as I know, the TUF Gaming X570-PLUS does not have the ability to update the BIOS without a CPU. On boards that have this feature, there's typically a little button on the I/O shield labeled "BIOS FLASH" or something similar (here it is on the Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO AC). The ASUS TUF lineup is supposed to be their budget option, so I suppose it makes sense to parcel that feature for the more premium boards. Doesn't mean you can't update the BIOS, just means you'll need to borrow an older Ryzen chip from a friend or computer store.

Ok, wait. Can I update the bios with my current Ryzen 7 3700X? Or do I need a full pc with an older CPU?

Oops. Completely forgot you mentioned that earlier in the thread. In that case, you'll be able to update with no problem. Sorry if I scared you :P

To be specific. I can put my Ryzen 7 3700X into the 570X. Load up my windows 10 and all. Then do the bios update, then pop in the Ryzen 9 5900X?

You wouldn't need to load up Windows 10 just to update the BIOS. Here's the instructions for ASUS EZ Flash 3
