Hypothetical question

So lets say (hypothetically) that I'm too lazy to water the plants and decided to build an automatic water dispenser thingy machine. I was planning on using my Raspberry pi on coding a machine thing that would run the tap water for x amount of minutes every 3 days. Would that be something possible? and if so, would it be hard? 

^asking that cause I have no experience in coding
