I built my parents a new PC recently. Just a simple web browsing machine carying a Haswell i3, a mini-ITX motherboard and a 120GB Kingston SSD. For some reason, sometimes it hangs for a couple minutes when booting. There isn't a recognisable pattern in when it happens. It just happens after a couple of normal boots. Normal boot time is around 20 seconds.

I have already disabled about every boot program and diabled any scheduled task. Not sure what I can try more. All drivers are up to date. This isn't a BIOS issue, as the PC gets to the Windows 7 logo before hanging. During the wait, the logo animation keeps going, so it's not an issue of the system being unresponsive. Any idea is welcome.

I would have suggested that it was a Bios issue until you said that. Other than what you've already checked I can't really think of what to try. The only other conclusion I can come to is that it is an issue with the motherboard.

It could also be an issue with the controller on the SSD? I'm not sure what would cause it to behave in the way you are describing, but other than that I don't know what to suggest, sorry.

Hmmmm, controller issue on the SSD. Sounds possible, but how do I test for that? :S

Check the S.M.A.R.T

Failing that run a short/long DST on something like seatools for windows.

Every data-safe test SeaTools provides passes without any problems

What mode is the SATA controller in?

AHCI
