What is hyperthreading and does GTA5 or 3D designing need it?

Basically... Hyperthreading takes one core, and lets it multitask on two different things at once. Usually this means you can have 8 threads on a 4-core part, increasing performance.

Neither need it. It is purely a performance feature. 8 real cores is better than 4 hyperthreaded cores. 8 hyperthreaded cores is usually better than 8 cores without it.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Intel Hyperthreading (or its AMD counterpart "Simultaneous multi-threading"/"SMT") is a way of making a single core, share its resources among two threads.

In essence, a 6 core CPU with HT/SMT will be seen as a 12 core part by software, as it has 12 individual threads that can be used.

Whether it is needed or not depends on the context.

There are 2 core CPU's with Hyperthreading and there are 10 core CPU's with it too, so there is no simple "yes/no" on whether or not it is needed or proffered. The way I'd look at it is "do I need CPU X or is CPU Y also good for less money", regardless of the hyperthreading.

I would like to mention I personally prefer PC's with 4 cores / 8 threads or more for gaming, or 6  cores / 12 threads (or more) for 3D work. But that is a very general way of looking at, as things like purpose and budget also play a part in the choice you should make.

Think of hyperthreading like standing in line to get into a concert. The line without needs to buy a ticket and can enter. The one with it already has the ticket and just has to wait until the door opens. There is no real benefit in games but you will see some in professional workflow applications.
