What do I upgrade first, GPU or CPU?

Hi all,

 

Im currently running a first gen ryzen 5 1600, 16gb 3000mhz ram, and a GTX 1080.

 

My question is; What do I upgrade first? Should I get an RTX 3070 and bottleneck, or should I upgrade my cpu to the new R5 5600x, new memory, mobo and cpu cooler? 

 

The 3070 will definitely bottleneck, and it might be good to go for the cpu, letting gpu prices settle, as they just launched.

The 1080 is still a good card. I would get a 5600X + a B550 DS3h/PRO4. Your RAM isn't the fastest but should be ok

I agree, but @Niko_Papasta, at what resolution and refresh rate are you playing? If 4k 60Hz or similar, do the 3070, otherwise the CPU.

Thanks for the reply man. I'm playing at 1440p 170hz, most games (single player games, i.e. far cry, Tomb raider) run at medium settings 1440p, at least with this cpu.

In that case, CPU is the right move.
