I recently built my first computer, an ITX, at first I installed an Aorus Gigabyte AIO liquid Cooling (I know... not very good one) any game FPS would drop and eventually crash. Overwatch would give me a message "your rendering device has been lost! Application closing!" I thought it was the AIO so I switched to air cooling. All was well until I added two 4 pin exhaust fans, using a SATA powered fan splitter the same thing happens again then I knew if I plug anything into the SATA it creates the problem.

 

Anyone knew the build was wrong? Or the PSU isn't enough? Below is the specification.

 

Motherboard: Asus-ROG Strix B450

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

RAM: Gigabyte DDR4 3200mhz 2x8GB

Storage: 1TB M.2 NVME

GPU: MSI GTX1660 Super Aero ITX

PSU: Corsair CX650M

No, the psu won't throttle. 

 

"your rendering device has been lost! Application closing!" - is related to video card resetting itself, or something related to video card. Maybe the video card driver crashes, or the video card overheats causing a reset or throttle.. 

 

The SATA connectors are good for around 40-45 watts each in theory, though I wouldn't use one for more than 30 watts.   

A fan consumes only around 2-3 watts, so having two fans on a SATA connector should not cause issues, with approximately less than 5w taken from the power supply. 

The pump of the AIO may consume 10-20 watts, no idea, but again should be fine. 

 

There may be a physical fault with a particular SATA connector, maybe the contacts inside the connector are damaged, or the wire inside the connector isn't making good contact with the pins inside, or there's some fault with the connector that could cause the psu to shut down or cause that particular sata connector to not output 12v or 5v to what's plugged in it.  In this case, you would simply use another sata connector. 

 

you shouldn't have to connect FANS to power supply sata connectors, you should have fan headers on the motherboard, or you can get a 2 fan to 1 connector splitter cables to plug 2 fans in a motherboard header.

Boggy77 it's all up to date. The GPU temperature seems stable even during the crash.

 

Mariushm I switched cables and sockets and it acts the same. If the connector is faulty the GPU should lost connection by itself. I was running cyberpunk last night without issue (well... not crashing at least lol) my PSU only connected to the motheboard and 8pin PCIe for the GPU and running fine.

 

But when I plugged anything SATA related (AIO cooling, or fan splitter) it seems it draws all power from the PSU and the GPU eventually crashes.

 

I'm new here and I really appreciate you guys super fast response =)

It's strange.   I'd suspect something you connect to sata may cause a short circuit on the 3.3v or 5v in the sata connector. 

 

Something you plug in the SATA connectors may have a short, pulling too much current on 3.3v or 5v or 12v and overloading the power supply. 

 

But if this is the case, the connectors would be hot, or the thing plugged in would get hot or the psu should shut down. 

 

Not sure how you would go about testing this...One idea would be maybe buy a molex to sata adapter and then plug your device into the molex-sata adapter to see if that changes anything?  The molex-sata adapter would only give 5v and 12v to the device which is fine, because pretty much nothing should use 3.3v from the sata connector.

using an adapter cable would also give you the option to disconnect the 5v from the cable (use a needle or small flatheat screwdriver to bend the metal clips locking the 5v pin inside the molex connector) - the red wire carries 5v, so you can just pull out the red wire leaving the sata connector only with 12v. 

The fans work with only 12v, and AIO may or may not use 5v (depends on model, most should only be 12v)

No, I suspect something inside one of your fans or your AIO is causing problems with the 5v output of your power supply.  If you don't use 5v but still power your devices from sata connector's 12v output, then it's most likely what you plug into the psu that's the issue. 

 

if the cable from psu is faulty, you can buy modular cables from a company like cablemod 

 

You can also buy molex  to 2...n  sata adapter cables if need be.
