Why 4K is 4K: A Mathematical Analysis

WinNut

I thought I would post an analysis of why 4K is called 4K.

4K means 4 times. In this case, it is 4 times 1080p.

4K is 3840 * 2160 because it is 4 times 1080p.

This is why:

So if we increase both the x side and the y side by 2 we will end up with 4 times.

1080p is 1920 * 1080, so:

1920*2=3840

1080*2=2160

Now, 4K has 8,294,400 pixels. 1080p is, on the other hand, 2,073,600 pixels.

If we do 2073600 * 4, we will get 8294400, the pixel count of 4k, hence why 4k is called 4k.

I hope this helps.

its also because its 3840 * 2160. and 3840 is almost 4000, which is commonly abbreviated as 4K

This isnt some unknown amazing mathematical equation. I'm fairly sure everyone knows this.

I just thought I would make it available  to all.

I had a friend that thought it was 1920x1080*4

1920*4

1080*4

It just works the same way as 1440p, being 4 times the resolution of 720p.

Eh, I guess you're right. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some people are.

Some kids in my class are *quite possibly* the stupidest people in the world, they are amazed that I can type on two keyboards at once with each hand getting it's own keyboard.
