Hope i can get some help on this topic and the server has about 6 - 14 people on at a time.

Thanks

To just run a minecraft server, you really don't need much but cpu and ram power. I'd go for like an AMD apu or an intel iCPU, and skip the gpu because there's really no graphicals in running a minecraft server. I'd also not go for anything to expenisve, if you're only going to run a minecraft server on it. What you could also do in the future, if you don't want to host the server anymore is make it into a litecoin mining machine, by just adding a gpu :P

Just get someone to host it...it's gonna be cheaper.

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo); ASrock Z87 EXTREME4; 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 RAM @ 2133MHz; Asus DirectCU GTX 560; Super Flower Golden King 550 Platinum PSU;1TB Seagate Barracuda;Corsair 200r case.

Yea, less probably. More easier to configure. And you got tech support if anything goes wrong. And no stress on your internet.

Or he can just make a cheap one, and then turn it into a litecoin mining machine :P

Or that.

I'm 13 guys... I can't really get it hosted to be honest i'm more comfortable in hosting myself since i have a decent connection.

Or that.

Yeah, but having someone hosting it for you would be less strain on your internet, and you always have support on it. The money starts to add up though month after month. It really adds up to how long you want to keep the server running, if you're gonna be bored after like 3-6 months anyways, just have some website host it for you.

You could host it from your laptop if you have one.Or from your actual desktop.

Its all about the single threaded performance with hosting a mc server. So compare that between cpu's when choosing

Okay so i'm not looking for more cores, More gigahertz?

Unless you are using YAMS or configuring java manually, the Minecraft server can't take advantage of multi-threated processing, which means it can only benefit of 1 core.

Get a Haswell i3.  A i3 4340 or an i3 4330 are basically an i7 with less cores, but much more cheaper. Don't go AMD, get Intel, and yes more gigahertz is better.

I run my server off my ultrabook on a cooling table, with an ethernet cable connected to the router.

Runs 32 players and a few bukkit plugins fine.

The question I have is, why do you want a separate PC to host the server really?

You could host it from your laptop if you have one.Or from your actual desktop.

I need it on 24/7 and i wan't decent no lag parts which can...You know look wicked and be affordable to be on 24/7. :P

Unless you're running a lot of mods, 4GB is fine.

Ok here are some specs i've come up with. Will this be fine for the server i'm running? I only run spigot and a couple plugins.

AMD Athlon X2 370K Black Edition Dual Core Processor

MSI A88XM-E45, A88X, FM2+ Motherboard

OCZ Onyx 32GB 2.5" SSD

8gb's ddr3 ram 1600mhz

430w psu

Case "Cheap one"

Please read my previous comment, for Minecraft server hosting you want the best single threaded performance you can get. Your best choice is a Haswell i3, they offer very similar single threaded performance compared to an i5 or i7, at a better pricepoint. AMD can get you more gigahertz, but you need the single core performance, a stronger IPC will get you to a much better server.

What form factor are you aiming for? Is an open bench an option? How much data do you need stored on the server itself? Do you already have any parts that you can put towards this machine?

"PSU brands are meaningless, look up the OEM."

I really can't afford an i3 at this point. As far as i can go intel wise is a celeron or pentium. :(

32gb will be enough for my server. It's only minecraft and i'm using ubuntu on it. Atx form factor
