Before we begin, yes I searched for similar topics as it seems everyone likes to bash people about that...

Anyways, I go to LAN parties every weekend, and it rains quite often here in Raincouver, BC. I try using a blanket but a lot of times it's awkward to carry or the blanket gets caught on something and falls off when I take my case out of the trunk.

Any suggestions? I used to have that thin cover from when I first purchased my case but it's since been lost. I'm afraid of using a large clear plastic bag if there's potential for any static charges..

Thanks!

Maybe it depends on the fabric of the blanket, but I would think the risk of ESD is higher from the blanket than it is from a plastic bag? *shrug*

I didn't think of that, as the fabric has never given me an issue (though what exactly it is, I'm not sure). I know for sure that another blanket in my house (100% polyester) is prone to static.

Hmm... maybe a box? but then the cardboard would get wet and damp..

Maybe if you covered the box in a bag or a blanket? xD

My PC doesn't get moved around much, hopefully somebody here will have better tips for you than I do, heh.

The case itself is already heavy to carry, so putting it in a box and then a blanket over-top of that would just be VERY awkward :P

Thanks for the suggestions though.

A plastic garbage bag...?

Might work, though I can see it getting torn from the sharp corners of my case (damn you Corsair! hah)

Was going to say a garbage bag. i carried my computer into rain shortly between house and car. but my case is competly closed ontop, so it wasnt a big deal

Yeah my 650D is open at the top and while I do have two 120mm Silverstone fan filters, they were meant to filter the air, not rain so I've had to do a mad dash to the house with my entire case :P

You can use two garbage bags and wrap the loose bits up and it'll be good to go. Get hefty, those actually work! :D

I remember I had this issue a while back, grabbed a garbage bag and immediately saw my arm hairs get pulled towards it. Realized some garbage bags can attract loads of static so they might not be the best idea. Use a blanket. #raincouverprobs

Maybe I can continue using the blanket I have in my trunk but I also have bungee cords... could wrap it around and then maybe I won't have an issue? :P

Sounds like a good idea to me. :P

The only downside right now with keeping my computer in the trunk (where it's most secure) is whenever I transport mine or another friend's computer, sometimes marks can be left on my car when putting in or taking out the computers :(

(The marks are not really visible in this photo, but it makes me sad either way).

Lol, I understand...perhaps the back seat? cover it in blankets if you have leather seats.

I do have leather seats xD I just keep running in to one problem or another, no matter what I do hah.

The issue with the backseat is if the seal of the driver's side door is disturbed in any way other than what it was intended for (if you accidentally hit it) then the door doesn't shut properly and the seal needs to be re-seated into the frame.

And plus when the computer is in the trunk, I can put my bag next to it and it won't slide around anywhere.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions; I'll give the plastic bag thing a try, and if that doesn't pan out then I'll try the blanket with bungee cords :D

Why not make yourself a tiny computer for LAN parties? Or a decent laptop?

Otherwise, just keep using the blanket and try using bungee cords like you said.

EDIT: Maybe put it on the floor on it's side in the passenger footwell or between the back of the passenger seat and the back seat on the ground?

... I really like this idea.  Think bbq cover.

Take a tarp, cut out squares the size of your cases sides, sew them together.

Large black trash bag.

No static since everything is inside the case.

I would just use the box, (I'm guessing you only need to carry it from the car to the place you are going, so the trip shouldn't be too long) unless you need to walk for 5 minutes in the rain you should be fine, a couple of water drops won't damage a box too much
