Tried to find an existing thread but no succes.

So everyone is having issues with Arma 3, if you don't have low FPS you're a lucky guy! But really there should be a way to optimize the game properly right? When in MP combat I get between 20-35 FPS on average. And well with the PC specs that is just odd. This goes for almost every user, best part of all. Almost everyone gets the same readings on FPS.

Anyway, as there are techies on this forum it just thought why not ask here?

My Rig:

I7 4770k @4,4Ghz

Asus Maximus VI Hero

16GB Kingston HyperX Blu 1600Mhz

EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX SLI

2x Samsung SSD 120/250

4x HDD 7200RPS total of 8TB

Corsair Axi 860W

1920x1080P resolution with HDMI on a LG 24MA53

Other stuff doesn't really matter as far as I know.

Thanks in advance!

I usually get 15-19 fps on multiplayer. I get 25-30 fps in the Campaign, on ultra settings of course

Arma 3 needs good single core performance, and thats why amd cpus suck at that game. You can be happy when you get 25 to 35 fps in MP.. I have an i3 that is basically an i7 but with less cores and i get 30 to 40 fps in MP.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

wow that sucks. good thing i bought an i3 instead of fx6300..

No it's not my cpu, my highest core is usually around 40% usage. The problem is my internet connection and the low quality servers.

ARMA 3 and its engine (Real Virtuality) has horrible multi core support, if it even has it to begin with. Your GPU is being bottlenecked like crazy by the game itself. This is a known problem by Bohemia (dev) and they haven't really done anything about it, nor do they feel like putting the effort in to it as they're afraid it might take too much time for the little improvement they'll make.

The only thing you can do is A: hope Bohemia listens to the community and puts effort in to improving this or B: overclock your CPU.

I guess it's the only option then :/

Whats your GPU

Added, thought I forgot something. (main part lol)

I usually get 15-19 fps on multiplayer. I get 25-30 fps in the Campaign, on ultra settings of course

On multiplayer like I said between 20 and 35 FPS on SinglePlayer however is 60-80 No issue at all.

Usually best to look at the games official forums.

There is a decade of information about the RV engine.

http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?112-ARMA-3

The RV engine isn't like any other game engine.

Putting some settings on LOW or Medium actually makes things perform worse then if you put it on HIGH

such as Shadows.     LOW/Medium uses CPU.... HIGH uses GPU.

The majority of people who jumped on the DayZ/Wasteland bandwagon has no idea what they are talking about when it comes to Arma and the RV engine.

Use the Official Bohemia forums and talk to the Arma vets.

I am an Arma 2 and Arma 3 vet. Not only that but I profiled the game in detail to try and determine why I and my entire community was seeing awful performance just like you were. The simple answer is its the game and its CPU usage. Its mostly single threaded and the games simulation steps actually take up the grand majority of the time. If you look at other Arma posts I have made you'll find the picture of the profiling I did which shows the problem, or you can just take my word for it when I say there isn't a piece of hardware out there today that can fix this problem, its the game, its broken and the developers just don't care to do anything about it.

-snip-

If you have low FPS that means the server you are playing on is crap. Im having 40-70 FPS on ultra usualy on servers where I play (60 people+). I encountered servers I had >20 FPS on lowest settings (30 people and less). (I am using 3km view distance).

Mainly play on =7cav= Tactical Realism servers, pingwise not smart as I get around 100 (Europe to US). But i'll check it out!

Keep in mind that in multiplayer the more script heavy the server the less FPS you get. Well, this is what I have experienced at least.

*Edit* If you play in very, very vanilla servers or servers with little to no scripts you will almost always get better FPS than those who play on servers such as Altis/Stratis Life and Wasteland as they are very script heavy servers.
