Freezes/unresponsive system while gaming

Hi! First of all, english is not my native language so sorry if grammar is bad.

Recently my PC started freezing during gaming. If I have music running in the back it might suddenly stop for a few minutes and then continue, seemingly at random, I can't alt+tab, pressing windows button does nothing, screen occasionally freezes for 15 sec or so, but i know for sure that game is still running behind stuck picture. Depending on the game it can unfreeze or as it happened in smite few times can throw me to the menu/logging screen.  Here's config

Ryzen 5 2600

RX 580 8gb from aorus

16gb hyperx predator 3200xmp enabled

MSI b450m mortar

samsung 256gb 860evo

barracuda 2tb hdd

During troubleshooting i noticed that my ssd reaches 100% usage, but none of my games are installed there, they are all on hard drive. I'm pretty sure it's the reason for unresponsiveness of the system but don't know what can casue it. So far I have: disabled windows search and indexing services, ran sfc/scannow and crystaldiskinfo, both couldn't find issues with disks. I'm out of ideas, so any help is appreciated, thanks :3

How much ram are you using?

I've had similar issue when I run my games when my RAM is near full (15.2/16gb) and when the game loads assets from my SSD, usage spike to 100% and system freezes for 5-10seconds

You can also check disk health using crystal disk info (not mark)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

It happens even when ram usage is around 8gb, and I've never seen more than 13gb in any of my games

Should still be good, SSD performance can plummet when it's near full capacity

Anyways, you can try running DDU and reinstalling your GPU drivers, see if that helps

DDU'd drivers and reinstalled them, didn't help. Also just to be sure I uninstalled ryzen master and cleared CMOS, even tho I didn't overclock my CPU, still having same issue. Fun fact, I ran msi kombustor for 15 minutes without any freezes, disk c sometimes spikes to 100% for a few seconds and returns to <5%, but any game immediately peaks drive at 100%

This tells me that accessing your drive is the issue, as the stress test doesn't access files from storage, but game does

But I can't tell what's causing it

Tried moving your game to another drive?

Did that, didn't help, but I found a bunch of events ID 153 and ID 129 in event viewer, both are related to disk issue. I will try to do something from here

If i were you, I would already be reinstalling my OS from a USB drive and start over

Something must've been broken, software wise

I really don't want to clean install windows right now, I have some work to do and reinstalling all the software is a chore. I will try when I have time for that, probably on christmas break. Thanks for time and suggestions tho

Little update, I swapped my GPU for an ancient gtx 550ti and guess what, not a single freeze, disk usage is fine, everything works like a charm. For me it seems that amd driver being amd driver, somehow overwhelms my ssd. Gonna try ddu again, both nvidia and amd drivers and to clean install, maybe that will help.

Well, here's a funny thing : I had similar issues, not quite as severe, but still similar until I removed my barracuda hard-drive (which btw are infamous to sometimes make issues) so give that a try. copy / move your game to the Samsung then remove the barracuda and check.

well that's interesting, insofar that it tells us it's not your windows install, I'd still recommend to try my suggestion above should the issue persist.
