DUAL GPU - GTX 1080 Ti + RTX 3080, would it work? / is it worth it?

IJD

Hi everyone,

I was planning on upgrading to the RTX 3080. I already own the GTX 1080 Ti.

Is it possible to create a dual GPU setup with these two GPUs? And if so, is it even worth it or should I sell my 1080 to cover a little bit of the cost of the 3080?

Motherboard ASRock X299 Taichi XE --> might change to MSI Meg X570 Unify

CPU i7-7820x --> might change to Ryzen 9 5900X

Thanks to all!

Best regards,

I

It would not work for gaming, the cards have no way to communicate and pool resources. You are better off selling it.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

Even if it could work SLI is dead and useless. Sell the 1080ti for around 300 - 350. That would be your best option

Depends on what you expect them to do. The 3080 cant do normal sli so its useless compared to a pair of cards that can.

Id sell them both for a 3090 then you can get another one of those down the line. A proper build.

Thanks so much! Don't have the 3080 yet, I'm just planning for next year, and I need to upgrade a couple more things so I don't know if I can reach for the 3090 yet. let's see. but thanks for the help! :)

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a 1080Ti liquid cooled, I have been thinking about picking up another 1080Ti to SLi, I could get another for £350... Would that be a cheaper upgrade than shelling out over £1000 for a 3090?

Ideas for future as at the moment the liquid cooled 1080Ti is preforming well!

Why not just a 3080? Youd need a good game and a cpu to handle two cards. And no one here likes sli as they tend to be youtube parrots and never used it themselves.

Given the games I play I would still do it but my cpu can barely handle a single 1080ti.

Then youd have to find another block. Id just leave it be unless you actually have 30 series cards in stock there.
