i5-8400 to i7-9700K worth upgrading?

that motherboard is not good for 9700k's high power usage. You would have to upgrade that too. Just wait for 5600x. 5600x is better than 9700k, matches the 10900k on most titles.

i currently have

i5-8400

32gb ddr4-2666 

aorus rx5700xt

 

i found a store selling an i7-9700k for around $250 bnew and in box.

 

is this worth an upgrade from my current i5-8400?

 

or should i just wait and get a ryzen 5 5600x and mobo?

 

i cant get a ryzen 7 5700x since that's way above my budget now.

What motherboard do you have? And cooling? for 9700k you want good enough cooling and motherbaord which will make it more expensive than Ryzen platform. I would just wait for the 5600x

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

my motherboard is a Gigabyte H310M H rev1.0

the i7 9700k is under the supported CPU list, however i know that due to the mobo. i cannot overclock.

i dont know why but the 9700 non-K cpu is actually more expensive than the K version.

 

as for my cooler. it is currently a thermaltake UX100 ARGB.... however i plan on buying a 240mm AIO if i will buy the 9700K
