So I went out of town & I'm staying at some relatives, and while my laptop can connect to the router, I cant connect to the internet

The laptop is a 2011 Dell inspiron M5110

the router is an apple airport extreme ( unknown year)

This only happens with this router & this computer, and my sister with an identical laptop can connect fine.

I'm writing this up on my tablet, which also connects fine.

I'd write it up more in-depth, but my family ripped me away before I could finish.

Things I have tried:

Resetting my DNS settings

Connecting with Ethernet.

Automatically obtaining IP

Restarting PC

Restarting router

Restarting modem

Network icon constantly swapped between No network access, No Internet access, Internet access, then back to no network access.

I know there isn't a problem

With the computer, as it connects to other networks without problem, and the router connects to other PCs without problem. Including two laptops identical to mine.

Connect via Ethernet and post the output of

ipconfig /all

does the airport require a static IP? just manually type in the DNS of the router, check one of the other pc's around there for what it could be.

The other PCs all use default automatic settings. I've tried this and it didn't work though.

have you tried copying one of the other pc's settings anyway?

IP address: make everything the same except for the last batch of digits for example: 192.168.1.xxx (try a few different ones as it could conflict with another device)

Subnetmask: just click that and it'll add automatically.

make the Default Gateway and DNS server IP the same as what the other computers have.. if that fails let me know.

I've already checked that & it's all the same, minus the last 3 digits of the IP.

This is why it's so confusing. All the settings are the same (minus DNS, which is currently set to Google's public servers)

And I know it's not hardware related, as both devices work with other PCs/Routers.

if all else fails you could always share the wireless network of one of the other laptops to their lan ports and connect via lan that way essentially routing your internet from one of the other laptops. But I'd only do that as a last resort or if you're lazy and it's a viable option.

or swap it around connect to the router from their ethernet port and share it via wireless and wirelessly connect to that laptop.. either way.

why do you say that it connects to the router, but not to the internet? how did you guess that?

he said internet not ethernet...

Edit: after you edited your post to what it is now, it makes no sense.

@ At least try what I stated above and see if that at least works even if just to test your laptop.

if you didn't edit your post then both of ours make no sense since you asked how he could guess that he can connect to the router but not the internet? You don't guess this, you can see that you are connected to the router but cannot access the internet. it's quite simple.

windows can bullshit you

if, say, you're "connected" to the router but you didn't aquire any valid IP or stuff then you're not really connected

i wanted to be sure that he is actually connected to the router, that's why i asked

can you ping the other devices in the lan? can they ping you?

because if ping works, then we can assume that the router isn't routing him out of the lan for some reason

and what would your resolve be if he could not even ping the local computers? he's already changed all his settings.

The only thing @ can do that I just thought of is open CMD prompt and type in ipconfig /renew and ipconfig /flushdns and see what that does since he's already tried mostly everything but flushing his network settings manually which this will do.

i usually find the problem before solving it

if the problem is not in his computer, all those cmd commands won't do anything
