I personally felt the 970 Evo, which I have the 1tb of myself, ran to hot. The Controller got extremely hot. I put a heatsink on it personally. It would hit over 105c when doing file transfers.. never gets above 70c now under full load.

I wonder then if I'm just better off with a regular SSD

Currently the price for the 970 EVO NVME is sitting at 99€

For the samsung 860 EVO SSD it's 86€ both at 1TB

All I do is game and watch videos

you will see zero different between NVME and regular sata based SSD for anything other than really high end computing tasks thats require fast storage speeds. Gaming and general browsing is not one of them. Sata drives are still 100% just as fast as NVME drives for those tasks.

Then there is no point, I have seen NVME's being faster during loading screens and windows bootup, but the amount is more often around 1 second or less.

I thought if the price is similar why go with SSD? however if I have to buy a heatsink and the NVME turns out to be 20% more then it's just useless to me.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitly keep it in mind

could always get a sata based m.2 drive as well instead of NVMe, then you wouldnt have to worry about wiring it up, or cooling it.
