Hello. Brand new member here but watched hours and hours of LTT videos. A few of those being on PSUs. The MSI PSUbeing brand new there hasn't been many suggestions on if its worth taking a chance on.

This build im doing is my first ever full PC build and I've decided to do a full MSI build. I'd like to include the MSI PCU but being its their first venture into that market I was curious if its a good idea or if I should stick with a brand thats been around longer. Thanks guys!

You should wait for proper revies of the MSI psus before buying them.

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

Thats kinda where I'm at. I'm not anywhere near technologically gifted to be able to read power consumption numbers and core temp readouts. I can't put stuff together like a boss but maybe I'll wait and hopefully see some more reviews then and upgrade that piece later. Still gotta find that darn MSI chair now haha. Thank you for the suggestion.

There is no real reason to just buy a MSI PSU unless it clearly is a good quality unit. This said there really is no info yet on these so I would wait, or just get something else. And in almost every (modern) case the PSU is covered by the shroud, so blind brand loyalty would matter even less with a PSU.

Just to provide some more info, a PSU's efficiency rating is not in direct correlation with how well it is made or the quality of the components used. There are plenty of sh!t 80+ Gold and Platinum PSUs out there. Some bad apples barely (or do not) even meet the efficiency rating they are rated at.

The efficiency rating of a PSU is simply a rating for how well the PSU converts the AC power it receives from the outlet to DC power for the systems hardware. So, for simplicities sake, lets say your system draws 100w of power. If you have a PSU that is 80% efficient, it will draw 125W from the wall.

I recommend looking at this list:

I generally recommend no less than Tier B, but if you have an upper tier GPU and a decently powerful CPU just go Tier A, there are plenty of options that are good quality and realiveitly inexpensive. Cheaping out on a PSU is not worth it, even something like voltage ripple can kill hardware while the PSU itself can continue to run without issue.

I wouldn't go a all 1 brand PC, tends to cost more for less performance.

Good luck, Have fun, Build PC, and have a Wii and PS2 as your only consoles.

I understand the appeal of one brand PC, but ultimately it's a limitation that will make your computer worse. I don't know much about MSI's PSUs, but I'm willing to bet it's gonna be a rebranded/reskinned unit from an actual PSU company, with an added premium for no real reason. MSI's cases are also not great

Great advice everyone. I really appreciate it. I did look at the PSU tier also just to make sure the MSI brand wasn't listed prior to posting so the fact it was missing was even more of a reason to hold off for now. And I agree at the end of the day an all 1 brand doesn't really matter. Just a situation being my first I just figured personally it would be an interesting way to go. I have an MSI 2060 GPU and an MSI motherboard that I plan on using a 10th gen CPU so I definitely don't plan on going cheap on the power supply but I know high $$$ also doesn't guarantee premium results.

Not going with the best ram or storage means something may go wrong with it but its a cheap fix. Going with a wrong power supply and you can lose your whole rig so just treading carefully on that one. So I'll just take another look at that list and steer clear of the MSI PSU for now.

Thanks again everyone!
