Network file transfers much slower than expected (seems to be limited to 100mb/s?)

I've had a NAS running windows server for a while now and initially speeds were fine (maxing out the 1gb/s when transfering large files) but now for some reason when copying a file to the NAS it sits at almost exactly 100mb/s (10-12MB/s) and won't transfer any faster (both devices are on the same LAN and using iperf the link speed is ~800-900mb/s)

Both drives should easily be capable of faster speeds especially for large files, copying the same file from the HDD it's on to the ssd in the same machine copies at ~60-70MB/s and the NAS can copy that file at over 600MB/s..

 

any ideas?

 

Edit: and for anyone wondering even copying from the NVMe SSD in the laptop to the NAS is still the same speed.

some device along the way is only running at 100 megabit, either your desktop, a switch/your router, or the nas itself.

That's what I thought but everything should be gigabit (both computers report as gigabit and I know the switch is gigabit). That was why I tested with iperf and saw speeds well over 100mb/s (around 800-900mb/s)
