Motherboard swap without reinstalling Windows?

Xa3phod

I sent my Ryzen Mobo off to RMA-land and while it was gone I reinstalled my old I7-6700K to use in the meantime and it wouldn't boot. I had to reinstall Windows from scratch. The New RMA's Mobo is on its way and I would hate to have to reinstall Windows again. Any tips on how to swap the mobo and not have to reinstall windows?

Basically it's luck. You'd have to be pretty lucky that windows won't act up now or in the future doing it so it's best to reinstall anyways.

Personally I never had any issues. I always swap hardware without reinstalling Windows initially and only after I get it running I reinstall Windows.

All I do is to plug in the old drive after I got into the BIOS and then I restart.

I did this when I went from an i5-4670 to an i7-6700K and when I switched to Ryzen.
