Thermal Paste Alternative?

I have some Permatex muffler and tailpipe sealer, would this be a good thermal paste I saw that it can what stand temperatures upto 2000 F which seems like it would require a good thermal conductivity to be able to do.

When i've seen it used for it's intended application, it turns hard and crusty.

I'm pretty sure that would permanently adhere your CPU to your cooler, and not transfer heat well at all.

being thermal resistant and thermally conductive are very, very, different things.

 

for instance, i have a piece of ceramic brick outside that can withstand 3000F, but it tansferes almost no heat, i can put it on the backside of my forge (1450-1750F), touch the outside part, and it will be cool.

 

just buy a tube of thermal paste, they're like $3-5
