So I have a 1700x oc 4.1 with some shit 16g ram and a gtx 1080. I bought a 165hz 1440p not to long ago and now I'm a high fps or bust fan.

I can ether afford a 5600x, mobo and some way faster ram or like a 3080/6800xt.

I would much rather run games at 165 low or medium than 60 ultra.

What would you recommend?

Thanks.

Definitely a GPU upgrade. It'll make the most difference in games. 1700x might bottleneck a 3080 in some very CPU-intensive games (CS:GO, some RTS games, etc), but it'll still be a big improvement, and you can upgrade the CPU whenever you feel like it.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Between option 1 of 5600X, mobo, and ram upgrade and option 2 of 3080/6800xt, the GPU upgrade will result in the most noticeable improvement in his FPS.
