Massive packet loss over time

I don't know a lot about networking, so I'm looking for tips on how to start troubleshooting my issue.

Recently I switched to a new router/modem, an Arris TG3452 (was sent to me by my ISP). Ever since switching, I've been experiencing some weird kind of connection degradation on my devices. Specifically, after about 12-16h I'll start experiencing massive packet loss to all websites, making streams unwatchable and games unplayable. I've tracked this with a program called Pingplotter, and below is an image of a trace to Google showing nearly 10% packet loss to several of the destinations.

Restarting the router fixes the issue, but again, only for 12-16h before this starts happening again. This is extremely frustrating as this did not happen with our previous unit which was 5+ years old (that one had different issues, obviously), so any advice is appreciated.

Here's a link to our model:

Those units are nothing but trouble. A fan on the side will help, but ultimately I had to persuade my ISP to send me a different modem.
