Task Manager reporting CPU Clock speeds wrong

Hey Everyone,

I'm new in this community and wanted to ask about this issue I've been having. I did use this installation of windows in my old intel powered laptop,

I did a system update with Windows Update Assistant from Microsoft .

at 2% utilization 3.7 GHz Clock speed seems wrong, Ryzen Master shows around 200mhz usage at 2% utilization

 

Any suggestions for fixing this?

Did you install all the drivers if so dose amd offer a cpu tracker program that you can use. For me when the task manager is reporting the wrong cpu speed I open intel power gadget to check temps, speed and utilization.

It is not unusual for Task Manager to report the wrong speed.

As you can see by the periodic mini spikes in the usages graphs, just because it has an overall package utilization of 2%, does not mean one or mores cores aren't ramping up for a second to perform a task then immediately throttling back down. When windows reports core speed, it is reporting the maximum frequency of any single core at a given time. It also only updates once per second (unless you changed the update speed) which doesn't offer much granularity.

Task Manager was never meant to be a good measurement tool for clock speeds, but 200MHz from Ryzen Master is equally suspicious. A new install in OS is recommended.

okay, anyway to fresh install windows while keeping old files in C drive ?

old files will be gone for good, so make sure important data are copied to somewhere else. Dont need to wipe the drive, when you try install the new OS it will prompt you to wipe a certain drive from there.

No, because taskmanager can only read the last reported numbers of ryzen cpus, so while it's idling it won't be updated, ryzen master however can read it according to amd, so unless you know how to reprogram windows you'd have to wait for Microsoft to fix this (ETA: never)

200 MHz isn't "suspicious" it's the expected behavior of Ryzen cpus, look it up on r/Amd or amd site itself, I wouldn't install the OS over this, makes zero sense...

Even if this particular issue is not caused by the OS, it is still the best practice to do a fresh install of Windows when switching platforms, especially in this case since it is a switch from an Intel laptop to an AMD Desktop, two very different platforms.

That also doesn't make sense... Haha 

 

In that case I agree it can't hurt, even though taskmanager reporting wrong numbers for Ryzens is a known issue which MS yet has to fix.
