MOBO: gigabyte ax370 gaming k3

RAM: 16GB Corsair vengeance memory OC’ed to 3200mhz

GPU: 5700XT

as far as cpu's go i would honestly wait for amd's 5nm architecture to release in a year or two, so when i do get that new cpu, i wont have to worry about upgrading it anytime soon.

and then in the mean time you could get a new rx 6000 series gpu to prepare yourself for when you do get that cpu.

or you could upgrade both at the same time, its really up to you

That GPU + CPU combo is more than enough for 1080P "ultra" gaming, and if anything that CPU is choking the 5700 XT at that resolution. If this were my PC, I'd start looking into 1440P or ultrawide displays to really give that 5700 XT room to spread its wings. Ideally I'd go for a display that's 2560x1440 (or 3440x1440), 144Hz, IPS panel, FreeSync, and w/ HDR10.

My budget to upgrade would probably be around the 350-450 range

That sounds like a good idea. 1080p tends to be more bottlenecked with the CPU especially at high FPS if I’m correct. 1440p is sort of An even ground with the bottlenecks or slights more of the gpu becoming the bottleneck. I will definitely look at some monitors. I have been wanting to go to 1440p but have just stuck with 1080p and have been upscaling my games.

I have been thinking about the new 6000 series GPUs. I’m currently waiting for the pricing etc before I do anything.

I’ve just found this monitor, seems like a good deal. It is a TN panel though. IPS monitors seem extremely expensive.

I would definitely look at maybe upgrading the CPU. I don't remember what x370 officially supports (I am pretty sure it will not support hte upcoming zen 3 CPUs, but I think it will take zen2?). And AMD 3xxx CPUs can probably be gotten really cheap and will be a great upgrade for you. And with whatever budget leftover you can maybe upgrade your GPU to one of the new RX6000 GPUs if you can afford it. But otherwise and GPU upgrade would be heavily bottlenecked by your current CPU

The cheapest update that makes some sense, is if you find a cheap ryzen 7 or ryzen 9 on Black Friday or second hand. A new GPU makes sense if you will go 2k or 4k. Otherwise you can wait a few more years

I can get a ryzen 7 2700x for £180 on Amazon currently. I have definitely been thinking about buying it.

I have been wanting a 2k 144hz monitor but I believe the 5700xt can handle that

Just had a look, ryzen 5000 series seems to work on x370 boards, even though they are ageing. I can get a 2700x for £180 on Amazon currently, really been considering it. I definitely have been considering a RX6000 series, just waiting to see some more info on them.

upgrade for the next generation is a bit reasonless even if it is a ryzen 7
Even the 2 generation leap is not a huge deal, i m just saying that because it's the last generation that you can get before you ll need to swap a motherboard as well
Now for 2k, ofcourse you can handle it, but you will have to make a few compromises, for example on a demanding game, you will turn some textures lower, some antialiasing, some field of view. In summary it's always what you want to give up in order to run it.

Yea I see what you are saying. I’m fine with lowering some quality settings if it’s going to result in an overall better picture. I might take a look at the 5600x or something along those lines.

Officially not supported, but rumor has it it works, better give it time to be tested by others before you take a risk by yourself

That would be the best thing to do. Hopefully it will be supported but if not then I’ll just figure out a different upgrade route
