'4k' Phone Cameras are bad

I recently aquired a new 4k monitor and after some light gaming and editing I decided to have a look over my 4k phone footage and realised it didn't look that great but then I thought I have a realitivly cheap phone and that could justify it, I decided to google for those "shot on a iphone" type videos, its not awful but then again its not as good as I thought.

 

Has anyone had simlar experences or are people just not watching there phone footage on there 4k screens.

There's a reason movies aren't shot on phones. There is a hell of a lot more to a camera than just the megapixel size of the sensor. It's easy to market 4K to consumers because they understand that thanks to TVs using this tactic predating phones having 4K cameras. While smart phone cameras are getting much much better and AI is doing some leg work as well they are no where near what a lowend to mid range 4K. vide camera can do

Just keeping this here as a This is why professional filming is not done on phone cameras.


Resolution isn't everything - and anyway, I'm suspect some supposedly 4K phones work on the basis of some kind of intelligent upscaling from a lower resolution, rather than actually capturing in 4K. I've certainly had some cheapy cameras that work on that basis.

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

My point isn't that they should film films in 4k my point is that why do they market them as such? I think its a bit misleading. I never like to parade phone Cameras a good when talking about them because the camera shuld never be the focus of the phone

Because they technically are producing videos at 4K resolution?

What else do you expect them to be marketed as?

Also depends on WHICH phone camera you’re on. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the gold standard in video and I can say that without even seeing a review, followed by the rest of the 12 line then the 11 line. There a difference between those and a oneplus 6T. 
 

Also also depends where you’re watching it. YouTube for example compresses the hell out of video.
