Unallocated Space in new boot SSD

I recently bought an M.2 1TB SSD. I already had a 512 GB SATA SSD where my Windows OS is located, so I had to clone it so I could make my new M.2 SSD my new boot drive. I did this successfully so now my system boots off the new SSD but I left some unallocated space in it that I cannot access. The disk management tab on Windows will not let me "extend" the drive to that space for some reason so I have no idea what to do. Is there any way I can fix this? 

 

Here's what my disk's management tab looks like. As you can see there's 454 GB of unallocated space so I basically cut my drive in half.

FIrst thing, make a backup in case something goes wrong.

 

I don't think you need that recovery partition, so you can just delete that, and then extend the volume. Otherwise, boot into a linux live disk, move the reovery partition to the end of the drive, then exten the partition.

You'll need something a bit more powerful that Disk Manager.

 

Easus Partition Manager has a free version or you can always create a GParted Boot USB.

 

You need to move the 566MB partition to the end of the drive space then you'll be able to extend the main partition into the free space.

I deleted the recovery partition but now the system won't boot off the new drive. Says that there is no OS on it. I think I'll probably just erase the new drive and try to clone it again, except this time to it right.

You did it right the first time. Remember you're cloning the old drive and I'm guessing the old drive is a 500GB.

 

Cloning will create an exact copy of the source onto the destination so it will only clone the 500GB and will put it exactly where it was.

 

As I said, install Easus Partition Manager, right click the 500mb partition and select Move, drag it all the way to the right then click OK followed by Apply and let it work then you can expand after it has finished.

Wht is the partition layout of the old drive?

 

Id probably reinstall windows on the new drive, so this won't be a issue at all.

I'll try re-cloning the old drive. I think there was something I could do in that process to ensure it takes all the unallocated space, however if it turns out the same I'll try your method.

Macrium Reflect is able to extend or reduce(assuming enough free space) a cloned drive to fit on the new disk during the cloning process.

So I'm cloning the old boot drive again, and here in macrium reflect it shows the extra space. What do I do to ensure that that space gets allocated in the drive?

Click the "Cloned Partition Properties" link when you have the correct partition selected. There should be an option for it in there.

I was able to clone the drive successfully and allocate all the space, but now my PC won't boot off the new SSD. I tried unplugging the SATA cable from my old SSD and changing the boot priority in my BIOS, but when I load in it says there are no drives containing an OS. Is there something I need to do in Windows to make it boot off it as well?

I'd try cloning again, and if that didn't work, I would see if I could repair or rebuild the boot sector of the cloned drive using a Windows Installation Media USB.

Recloned and everything works now. Thanks for the help!
