Budget (including currency):

$700 to $1000

$700 preferd $1000 if there is a good reason

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

I need a decent amount of ram / 16GB for some virtual machines I run while developing and compiling code.

Extra cores are ostensibly handy for this to

I want something that'll play Ori and the blind Forest and a hat in time at 60fps on a non ridiculous screen HD only.

I'm not interested in 100 FPS gaming or any kind of demanding title I have the reflexes of a potato

I picked the power supply from the tier list

and found the case that  that was recommended to me for being easy to build in and having good cable management

modular power supplies are a plus but not really something I would pay that much for

Do you think this build should be cut down and where it can be cut down?

Do you think it should be added to to meet my minimum requirements?

I'm sorry I keep bugging you guys and I would appreciate any input as I've never built a computer before except for a couple of junkers about 10 years ago made out of recycled and old parts

I personally would try and get a 3rd gen Ryzen, if possible.

As Black Friday is coming up, and 5th gen Ryzen is out, 3rd gen chips should go on super sale.

It's what I'm betting on at least :)

You can cheap out on the powersupply and case to save some money. I'd recommend the 8GB version of the RX 570, if you ever want to play above 1080p it will be useful.

I made a variation on your build that should have better performance

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor  ($213.98 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock B450 Steel Legend ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  ($109.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6 GB GAMING Twin Fan Video Card  ($249.99 @ B&H)
Case: Cougar MX330-X ATX Mid Tower Case  ($41.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA BQ 500 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply  ($67.98 @ Amazon)
Total: $773.92

Wow! I completely forgot about that are there any online retailers you can recommend that would be likely to have a sale? Amazon maybe I don't know

Newegg.

I refuse to recommend Amazon to anyone due to how they treat their employees, especially during COVID.

Google it.

EDIT:

I am NOT saying boycott Amazon just because I said so.

I am simply explaining why I won't do something.

On the line is tech tip videos they say not to skimp on the power supply cuz it can fry the rest of the system,

And it's my first build so I want a PC case that's good to build in.

I guess I should look at the FPS numbers people are getting with these graphics cards similar systems to see if this would be enough thank you

thank you, yeah I completely forgot about Black Friday cuz it's usually nothing I get on Black Friday.

Yes I can have build set up in my cart and see if something relevant goes on sale so I can take advantage of the deal.

I have to figure out which ones to be good first because I'm not that experienced

I have heaps of theoretical knowledge.

Hands-on experience =

Reinstalling Windows 4 times

Bending pins on a Ryzen 5 1600X (beyond repair for my skills, someday I might be able to fix it)

Swapping graphics cards around

Putting together a Pentium III (Slot 1) tower

Figuring out how to make a CRT go into epilepsy mode

That's it :)

If you super cheap out on a power supply it might fry your system. Your system is relatively low power consuming and will be fine. Just don't get some chinese power supply off Aliexpress. A C-Tier is fine for this price point.

And generally it's fine to build in this case, you'll just need a little more cable ties.

I would personally get a 5600x with a b550 board like the b550 elite from gigabyte. Yes it's more expensive, but you'll have a good base system for when you decide to upgrade the GPU. Also at the moment you can't get a faster gaming CPU, no overclock needed.

Gaming PC:

CPU: Ryzen 5800X3D | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Elite V2 | RAM: Crucial 2x16gb, 3200  JEDEC. | PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G3 | Monitor: LG 27GL850-B , Samsung C27HG70 |
GPU: Asus Prime RTX 5070ti OC| Sound: Odac + Fiio E09K | Case: Fractal Design R6 TG Blackout |Storage: Kingston Renegade 2TB and Corsair MP510 960gb | Cooling: CPU: Alphacool ST30 420mm rad, Alphacool CPU and GPU Core LT and Core blocks, D5 pump and res combo

Linux PC:

CPU: Ryzen 7700| Motherboard: Asus A620M-CSM | RAM: Crucial Pro 2x48gb, 5600  JEDEC. | PSU: Corsair CX750 | Monitor: LG 27GL850-B , Samsung C27HG70 |
GPU: MSI Gaming X RTX 3090 | Case: Lian Li Dan Cases A3-mATX black |Storage: SN7100 2TB + Samsung 860 EVO 512gb | Cooling: CPU: Thermalright Peerless Assassin Mini Fan(s): Noctua 1x NF-A14x25 Chromax

consider not cheaping out on the power supply. Instead, look at spending more. Stick to brands that are known to be good and also go read some PSU reviews of any you are considering, Jonny guru does the best imo. Look at the warranties. 10 years is great. Plus if it's got 10 years + then it'll last this system and another system build (so won't need to get a new psu again) and then an upgrade of one and it's still under warranty. Plus since the average fan only lasts 5 years or so, it'll cover 1 possibly 2 fan replacements. Generally, not cheaping out on the psu works out better in the long run. ik I'd rather buy one good one then two shitty ones.
