So I own a BenQ XL2411 monitor that used to run fine on 144hz with my 1060 as it supported dvi, but with my new 3070 i have tried using a DP to DVI cable and even an adapter however I can not get it to run at 144hz, if someone  could point  me in the direction of an adapter that would work that would be very helpful

You need an ACTIVE adapter for DP to work correctly with DVI because it needs do do some signal conversion. Not a passive one that just passes the signal through.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Just to make sure, will this be a suitable fit?

Yes this is an active adaper. Just make shure your max resolution is inside 1920x1200 for this adapter.

I think I have the same monitor. If so, it needs a dual link DVI signal. HDMI for example is single link so can't support that. I have no idea how DP conversion works, but you probably need to ensure it does dual link DVI output. Otherwise it'll be stuck at 60 Hz.
