Hi all,

I have been toying with the idea of an upgrade on and off all year.  Most people in the last couple months suggest waiting on the new this and the new that and when you wait they will be hard to get blah blah

Anyway, I can wait.  I may wait till the November hype is gone and see how the land lies in early 2021.

 

No budget per say but I don't want to go crazy either.  But I do want new everything as my current setup is about 10yrs old at this stage.  I even want a new desk and chair!  :eek:

 

I don't really game these days but a new setup may entice me back into all that.

 

This is a list I compiled as a draft list and I open to changing and better options etc.

Personally I would save a bit on the mobo, considering your CPU choice, go for something like the Asus X570 TUF Plus. And get a better airflow case, I recommend the Phanteks P360A or P400A would be great!

 

Otherwise this looks solid, keep in mind that this is very early to 'plan' a build, much can change. 

 

Based on the monitor choice I would look at an RX 6800/6800XT or a 3070.

Thanks for that.  The monitor is just thrown in at random to fill in that section.  I really don't know what to go for other than 2560*1440 with a better refresh rate and response rate than my current one.

 

Also, I am not sticking strictly to that particular GPU its just something people suggested to me a few months ago when I was considering the 3600.

For 1440p 144Hz anything past a 3080 gets no real return for your investment. So a RX 6800/6800XT or a 3070 would be the highest tier I would recommend (if you decide on that level on performance). Consider used 2080S or 2080Ti's in the future as well, if you can get a 2080Ti for $100 less than a 3070 it would be a good deal.

 

We also need to wait for real world performance numbers and pricing on the RX 6800 and 6800XT.

I am not certain as yet.  I am not a hardcore gamer but I will want something that will play them at a high setting and one that would compliment what processor I go for.
