That's not type, that's speed.

Haswell benefits from increased speed and some games benefit from it too. 1600Mhz is enough for games these days but recently they have been asking for a bit faster.

DDR3 is of course the type but for speed you have to be careful. while 1866 mhz would seem faster most lower end models sacrafice the timings that are better on 1600mhz and so the performance is the same or worse. Mushkin has super low timings and can often be found on sale at places. (not on newegg here) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226178

Any actually. I got a 1866MHz because it was just $1 more than 1600MHz where I bought it here at my location.

It all comes down to pricing.

nope, cheap 1866Mhz is worst than good 1600MHz because the timings are worst on cheap 1866MHz..

Well if it was a cheap 1866MHz stick, of course a good 1600MHz stick will be better. But not always as good 1866MHz stick will be slightly better than a good 1600MHz stick.

as soon as you go over about 1600 mhz its irrelevant really. the timings should at least say 9-9-9-20isch or something and you are on the good side. I just found a kingston beast kit with 2600 mhz cheaper than the 1866 model so there you go just take a trusted manufacturer like kingston, corsair, adata and so on and nothing should go wrong

If you are using it for gaming, any 2x4GB CL9 1600mhz ram will be fine.
