Ok I did some googling seems AB can control the fans but not "icx"

so it turns out - if you use Afterburner for fan control it (the card itself or Afterburner) actually turns off 1 fan completely... so I wouldn't call it "fine"...

this is really unfortunate, because at least the version of precision x1 I have installed works fine, but it also uses up 2-3% cpu at all times which is annoying because it makes the cpu fan spin erratically, basically that way the pc never idles (getting slight NZXT CAM flashbacks lol)

so tldr: I'd rather use Afterburner because it uses a lot less cpu and has the nicer overlay with better customization, but I can't because the default fan curve is a joke (cannot reach 2000 MHz with it at all) and I therefore *have* to use "EVGA precision x1".

So I could use Afterburner for the overlay but having two programs run that do basically the same thing doesn't seem ideal either - and I've already noticed Afterburner actually interferes with Precision x1, so it's not even really an option.

real tldr : proprietary fan control sucks, thanks EVGA (also asynchronous fans are really dumb and useless)

Does it have an on screen overlay and monitoring like MSI Afterburner has with graphs and stuff (by that I mean where you can look at temps etc after you closed a game for example)?

Also can't I just use Afterburner with an EVGA GPU instead? Are there any advantages or disadvantages?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

It does, doesn't work on most games though.

Yes

Afterburner works with basically all games and graphics cards, PrecisionX on EVGA videocards can tune the RGB colors and individual fan speeds of the videocard

Ok but I can still set a fan curve with Afterburner, just no RGB goodness?

With an EVGA card, I can't set a fan curve in Afterburner. That might be because I have PrecisionX installed too, which of course can set the fan curve.

Hmm, I see. I would rather avoid installing yet another 'manufacturer program' not the best experience with this... But for now I'll just hope it works with AB, I already know the default fan curve will suck lol

Now I have to google that... OOF

Of course the card I plan to get has this "icx" stuff...

(GTX 1070 "FTW2")

Edit:

Quote

Added asynchronous dual fan control support for reference design NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20x0 series graphics cards. Please take a note that only 100% NVIDIA reference design dual fan control implementations are supported, third-party proprietary asynchronous fan control solutions (e.g. EVGA iCX series asynchronous fans) are not supported and will not be supported in future versions.

Welp.

He (unwinder, the AB guy) is not gonna do it because the API isn't in the driver for 10xx cards alledgely, that's why I really dislike this proprietary nonsense manufacturers love to pull so much.
