soo... slightly tech related i guess :D

you know how linus always talks about how its better to get a high end gpu "used" than getting a budget gpu "brand new"

well im trying to do the same thing with a coffee maker only thing is i know nothing about them

basically im trying to get my parents one for christmas. one of those bean-to-cup ones.

but prices vary a lot and go pretty high brand new.

so i thought id ask around if someone know something about them and which one to get which ones not to get. that kinda stuff.

no set budget but im not trying to pend a 1000 bucks here so best bang for buck kinda deal.

anyone got any info on what i should be looking for?

I have a DeLonghi ECAM at home. It makes a really good coffee. Currently serving 5 cups of coffee every morning for about a year now. I would look for one that has an option for a service contract. Without, replacing parts can be very expensive and routine maintenance like clearing the pipes and replacing rubber o-rings etc. is fully covered. I had a cheaper one in the past and the service company ended up replacing the machine due an issue with the grinder for free.

ok makes sence but im not even sure how to look for that or if that exists around here. so basically that would be just a very good warranty policy?

Until my boyfriend decided to let it sit on the stove, (like a really big brained individual) we were using a Kinto Column.

It's cheap and if you don't want to buy a coffee maker it's ideal.

Now i just drink canned crap all morning...

Look for an offer that has on-site repair included. You don't want to bring that device into a store and then wait several weeks for it to be repaired or replaced. In Austria we have several service providers for these types of machines and many also sell them directly. General warranty policies they are meant for consumer devices that can be sent in. As I've stated before, look for service providers (those that maintain coffee shop machines), they should be able to help you out. My contract is with the manufacturer directly but all repairs are carried out by my local authorized repair technician.

I can’t help you if you’re looking for one of those all in one units that stores and grinds the beans automatically for you - although I literally just saw one at my dealer today.

It’s called a “Cefection Encore 29”. Looks quite pricey.

But for a simpler experience I would suggest a nice burr bean grinder - I picked up one at Walmart for like $40.

Pair that with a French Press. They are easy to

operate and make excellent coffee.

Im not much of a drinker myself but my fiancée has a cup most mornings.
