Can I use a 2x6 to 1x8 adapter for my gpu

Hello, so I recently build the 2020 500 dollar pc build that Linus built over the livestream with some slightly different parts that I already had around the house. I ripped out the +2 of the 4+2 connecter like he did and then when i went to upgrade my gpu to a 1660 i needed it back. The power supply has 2 6 pin connecters and i was wondering if an adapter like the one bellow would work well. I have seen some things about it starting fires but with the extra ground wires that shouldn't be an issue right?

I can't see your list and why did you destroy your 8 pin connector? Technically yes it will work but I never recommend adapters ever.
