PLEASE HELP! - How to update B350 BIOS for new processor.

As the title says, A friend has purchased a new AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, upgrading from their old Ryzen 5 1600. They, however, forgot to update the BIOS before switching prossessors. This wouldn't be an issue if they hadn't then dropped the 1600, bending multiple pins. After trying to bend the pins back, he was able to get it to go into the MOBO (with force), and post, but only had access to Windows for about 15 seconds before it shut down. He is concidering buying a new MOBO, but doesn't really have the money. Is the CPU salvageable? Is the only option left either bring it to someone with a 1st gen Ryzen processor or buy a new MOBO. He has stated if he needs to bring it to a tech / someone else who he would pay to update it for him, he will just go buy a new MOBO. Thanks for the help.

He considered this, but is trying his best to have it up and running ASAP. From what I've read it can take up too 2 weeks to receive the CPU. Maybe this was outdated info? I'm recently new to the PCMR so I don't know too much.

A computer shop might do it for free or for a small fee

I was trying to tell him this, but after 1 (failed) call, he gave up. I think he's frustrated so I'm going to give him a bit to cool down. Just thought I would try to see if anyone believed the CPU was salvageable for enough to boot. I was thinking that it could help if he tried inserting it and installing the fan to add pressure onto the CPU? He was trying to just run it without the fan as he didn't want to have to go through installing it and uninstalling it again. Is that possible to help?

Sounds like it might be working, but without thermal paste and a fan its probably shutting down to protect itself from overheating. I mean you might have to wait 2 weeks for a boot kit so you have plenty of time.

Of course it will shutdown if you run the system with no cooler...

Your friend is so silly.

A lot of AMD motherboards support USB bios flashing without a CPU installed. RTFM and see if that is supported on his.

Well, I guess I didn’t really explain this properly. I don’t believe it was the cpu overheating causing issues. One of the posts were haunted by some visual glitches eerily resembling a glitch green screen effect. As said before, I have told him to try with the cooler, but he told me he’s going to try tomorrow as “today isn’t my day.” Lol. Thanks everyone for the help.

That was the first thing I thought, but nope. His motherboard doesn’t support any form of USB bios flashing
