I need some help finding a Case.

Vincent Lullo

Sorry in advanced I am on mobile currently.

My Aunt is putting together a pc and she's asked me to help her. The problem we've run into is that she is being picky about the case and wants specific things for it. I've been trying my hardest to find a case for her and I've come here for help.

The case has to be a Mid or Full Size Case with at least 2x 5.25" slots for DVD/CD drives and hot swap capability for 1x 2.5" & 3.5" HDD/SSD. All the cases she's liked are from pre-2015 including the ThermalTake Chaser A71, ThermalTake Overseer RX1Cooler Master Storm Trooper, and the CoolerMaater C700M.

If you have any suggestions I would be more then happy to share with her and if you find anyone selling these cases(beside the C700M) we are on the lookout for them. Thank you.

No offense, but why 2 slots for DVD/CD?  Don't you just need 1 DVD drive that does it all?

Hot swapping drives?  WTF is she going to be doing?

I guess any case with access to the drives is good with hot swapping if the setup allows it?

That's what I told her but she's adamant about having two so she can read and write at the same time. And yes you are correct about the hot swapping but it has to be accessible on the exterior like a CD/DVD drive.

So your aunt is copying CDs? Nice, good to see mature folks still engaging in the illegal side of things :)

Hot swapping drives like that is for quickly taking out a drive when the Feds raid, so that's smart.

I like how she thinks!!!!

In all seriousness, I have no idea what case would be good for her then.  @TVwazhere may have a recommendation.

Coolermaster's MC500 comes to mind, but very few cases have hotswap hard drive bays (the cages themselves are kinda hot swapable?) that AERNT designed to simply be NAS cases; usually very expensive and no 5.25" bays

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B5PBFG2?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

The only 2.5/3.5" HDD hotswap I can think of in a modern case is the Lian Li Lancool 2 with the HDD backplane addon. No 5.25" Drive bays.

If you dont mind looks (or outrageous price for such an old case), you can probably find a level 10 or Level 10 GT

OR, you could find a case with lots of bays like the Rosewill Thor V2 and use 5.25" to 3.5" HDD conversion bays

Thank you for the recommendations, I'll talk to her about these cases and see what she thinks along with converting some of the 3.5" bays.

Coming back to say I DID find the NR600P which has two front accessible Hot Swap bays, but no 5.25" bays.

You can always add a hot swap tray for a 5.25" bay.
