SSD no longer working?

Go to solution Solved by BootyBuddha,

Thank you all for the help. I put the drive into another computer and it wasn't detected. I switched out cables and ports, and it still wasn't detected. I'm pretty sure at this point that it's just fried. Once again, thank you all for the help.

I'm having trouble with my SSD and I'm unsure as to why. I've swapped out both the SATA power and data cables, yet it still doesn't work. I thought it was the SSD, but then I tried another SSD, and nothing is happening with that one either. Maybe they're both broken, but I haven't really found any solution while trying to figure it out myself. I've attached pictures of what happens when I go into disk management. Any response or help is really appreciated.

before i'd say it's the SSD try getting a sata to usb adapter and plug it into a usb port. if it doesn't show up then it very well may be the SSD. If it does then you may have to format the drive then plug it back in internally. I've had a few issues like this before and it's usually just windows not recognizing the drive at all. Probably wait on a better answer though before doing anything too drastic.

Have you tried using different SATA ports? Some motherboards will disable SATA ports when PCIe x16 or M.2 slots are populated. If you already have, I would suggest booting up a live instance of Ubuntu and using GParted to attempt to format the drive.

Not accurate,it happens when a second PCI-E card or NVME drive are connected.

I thought about that as well,it can also be the SATA cable itself - i had SATA cables going bad on me in the past.

In some cases this just depends on the slot you're using. As an example, using the PCIe X16_3 in X4 mode will disable an entire set of SATA ports that share bandwidth: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/Z87-PRO/E8489_Z87-PRO.pdf (ix, 3-36).

I have tried using different ports with both SSDs., but would Ubuntu and GParted do anything though if the SSD isn't being detected?

If the SSD shows up in your BIOS, it will likely be available in GParted. Availability in GParted can also help verify if the drive is functional.

Try a different SATA cable, both the data cable and the power cable.

Maybe the power supply in one of the systems fried them?

I think so at this point. The side SSD is now working, but the main SSD that got me to post the question is done. Got a usb cable to connect the SSD and it still did nothing. It's just fried. I appreciate the help though.
